God Loves You

A foreigner stranded in the Central American desert; he lives from one moment of desperation to the next. Trapped by circumstances and believing the hold bondage has on his life will remain, the man cries out. Enslaved by a lie, he is desperate for hope. A reminder that he is loved. Can you relate? Have you ever experienced a situation that turned life upside down? Sent you into an unexpected wilderness season? Left you wondering if God loves you?

After four hundred years of silence from God and generations of accumulative grief, few of the chosen believed the Lord could deliver them.

What Burdens Reveal About God’s Love

Like the gentleman who remains far from home but longs to return, the Israelites ached to inherit the land of promise. But they were conscripted into Pharoah’s workforce and mastered by cruel men. Like the sands of Egypt fleeing in a dust storm, dreams dwindled.

But scripture reveals that in their suffering, “their cry for help…ascended to God.  So God heard their groaning; and God remembered His covenant…” (Exodus 2:24-25 NASB)

Oh, the inexpressible love of God.

The Faithful One hears the prayers of the shattered, the weeping of the troubled. The Father upholds His promises.

Not only that, but “…God saw the sons of Israel, and God took notice of them. (Exodus 2:25 NASB) The Message Bible tells us He “understood” each hurting man, woman, and child in the worst of their heartache and pain. Then, God moved—miraculously.

What the Bible Teaches Us About the Love of God

What do these three verses teach us about the love of God?

  • His hesed invites in some divine and unfathomable way, our prayers–which are like incense in God’s presence (Psalm 141:2 NASB).
  • Rather than an impersonal, detached figurehead, God takes an interest in each of our lives. When you mourn, grieve, or react in fear, He cares. If you feel lost, alone, or despondent, He notices.
  • God always moves on behalf of His children. Time might stretch and it may seem as though our prayers will go unanswered.

Friend, His ear remained attuned to the groans of those He loved. As believers, “the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words”. (Romans 8:26 NASB)

A Prayer for Those Who Need to Be Reminded of God’s Love

Lord,

You know the burdens I carry and that my heart cries out for relief. Like the Israelites in Egypt, I feel as though this weight is too much for me to bear. Today, help me to release my hurts and hardships as a sacrifice of prayer. I know your burden is light (Matthew 11:30), Jesus. Thank you for loving me enough to exchange your life for mine. From the cross, you heard my cries for rescue and interceded on my behalf. Because you conquered death, I trust you even in difficult times and wait for I am certain you will take notice of me. (Exodus 2:25)

With praise and thanksgiving,

Amen
