Ice clings to the window and steam curls in ghostlike ribbons above my mug of tea. Winter still blasts the foothills of Colorado with her cold breath, but I think of spring and linger over books that remind me of newness. Growth. Life. Three of my favorites are listed below. I couldn’t have known God would put this book in my life at exactly the right time. Two dear people in my life have been diagnosed with cancer in the same week and I desperately need time with my Father.

The book, beautifully written, is reminiscent of ‘Jesus Calling’. However, it is much meatier. Written in a “call” and “response” format, each day begins with a section entitled, ‘From a Father’s Heart’ and follows up with the readers portion, ‘From a Grateful Heart’.

A Daily Truth, several Bible verses, a challenge, and space for journaling a prayer complete each day’s section.

What I love most? While one can read through the book chronologically, the reader can also focus on the most needed topic on any given day. If I’m surrounded by chaos and don’t know what to do, I might want to read Day 39: When You Desperately Need God’s Help, The One Who Is Ready to Help You. When I’m overwhelmed by anxiety, I can turn to Day 69: When You’re Feeling Anxious and Distressed, The One Who is Your Only Rock.

Rebecca Barlow Jordan has encouraged my heart and gained a new fan.

You were; You are; You will be God: the One who is my salvation and joy. And though outward circumstances may not change, I will, Lord. I choose to find my joy in You, no matter what. Click To Tweet

Written by literary team, Helen McIntosh and Blythe Daniel, I Love You, Mom! Cherished Word Gifts From My Heart to Yours, is a gift book designed for new and mature moms. Each refreshing daily devotion is filled with tender stories about motherhood and is short enough for the busy mother to fit into a crowded schedule. Each story is preceded by a word of blessing as well as a Bible verse. A space at the front of the book allows for personalization to that special mother, stepmother, or mother-in-law in your life. This sweet book will touch a lot of hearts this coming Mother’s Day and is a precious reminder of the beauty and importance of mothering.

Favorite quote: And we can be assured that God’s love multiplies. He helps us add on layers of love to our children’s lives when we voice how thankful we are for them and how they are helping us see his love through them.

A debut picture book and number one best seller written by Josie Siler, Howie’s Broken Hee Haw, will delight readers of all ages. A story about Palm Sunday, this book deals with themes such as imperfection, fear, and acceptance. Both children and adults will enjoy Howie’s happy praise of Jesus and the twist on this familiar story from scripture.

This book is a perfect addition to a Palm Sunday celebration, an Easter basket, or homeschool curriculum.

I’m always looking for new books to fill my shelves. What should I read next?
