“All endings are also beginnings. We just don’t know it at the time.” Few words are more apt than those by Mitch Albom–especially as 2021 fades and a New Year settles on the edge of the Earth’s axis. As history closed on one period of time and encroached on the next, I prayed God would reveal a specific word and Bible verse for me to meditate on in 2022.

Again and again, one stood out. For weeks, it appeared in songs, commercials, on social media feeds, in Bible verses, and sermons. What was this mysterious word?

Glory.

Romans 4:20 reads, “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God…”

What Does Glory Mean?

According to Strong’s concordance, glory is a transliteration from the word doxa–as in doxology. Its literal meaning is “what evokes good opinion” and holds intrinsic value. Glory, then, is God’s beauty made manifest. His fame spread among men. His creation clearly seen by the imprint of Lord’s hand.

I believe the Lord wants me to focus on His beauty. To see His glory made manifest among others and to faithfully share His love in 2022 with brave, fresh passion. More than that–I am convinced that Romans 4:20 is to be my prayer, “Tammy did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God…”.

There are promises to which I am holding. Promises for my family. Promises for the future. I am trusting God for them.

Are you, too, holding to such promises? Oh, friend, claim this verse as your own. Together we can give Him the glory.

One Word and Spiritual Growth Ideas

Choosing a word for the year can be a faith-enriching opportunity. Beyond memorizing one Bible verse, there are a variety of ways you and I can incorporate our “one word” into our faith journey. These might include:

  • memorizing all or most of the Bible verses that include the word
  • doing a word or verse study through the year
  • journaling about your word
  • creating a small group and share with one another about your individual words
  • writing one action step each week to help stay focused on your word
  • taping your word and memory verse to your bathroom mirror, refrigerator, and/or other prominent place(s)
  • Bible journaling all of the verses that include your ‘one word’

If you have chosen a word or verse for the year, would you share it in the comments? How are you planning to use it in 2022?
