Misinformation. Five simple syllables loaded with meaning. A glance at the baseword and affixes reveal the meaning, “to inform wrongly”. In a confused culture, news, politics, and basic data are suddenly less clear. Clouded
But misinformation by any other name–hype, propaganda, or spin–found its earthly inception uttered from the tongue of the serpent.
But misinformation by any other name--hype, propaganda, or spin--found its earthly inception uttered from the tongue of the serpent. Share on XDid God really say, ‘You must not eat from any tree in the garden’? Genesis 3:2 (NIV)
As if playing a warped version of the children’s game, Telephone, Eve added to God’s command.
…“We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, but God did say, ‘You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.’ Gen. 2:3 (NIV)
The father of lies continued.
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Genesis 2:4-5 (NIV)
Satan’s cleverly disguised misinformation led to doubt, disloyalty, and death. I believe the lie that captured Eve’s attention was the implication that God–the Creator of Paradise in which the woman lived–might be keeping something lovely and desirable from those He claimed to love.
In the same way that claims of misinformation flood social media platforms, the spiritual realm is a place in which the false claims of the Enemy are slung at believers.
“If God loved you, He would ______________ (heal the chronic illness that steals your time and energy, protect your loved one’s reputation, forge new inroads with your prodigal, fill in the blank).”
These taunts lead us to the tree–our hands reaching, grasping as the Snake hisses, “He’s holding out.”
God isn’t one to hold out or hold back from those who belong to Him. Instead, He gave it all--including His own life---that we might receive what was lost that day in the garden.. Share on XThe Enemy is clever, but he could not have known. God isn’t one to hold out or hold back from those who belong to Him. Instead, He gave it all–including His own life–that we might receive what was lost that day in the garden.
Peace and grace,
Tammy

“God isn’t one to hold out or hold back from those who belong to Him.” Yes! This truth has sustained me on many hard days.
Hi Lisa,
The truth of His kingship and victory has sustained me, as well. But for God go I!
Blessings,
Tammy
This is a reminder I could never tire of hearing! ‘God isn’t one to hold out or hold back from those who belong to Him. Instead, He gave it all’ Thank you!
Hi, Sarah.
I’m so thankful He gave it all! Many blessings to you.
Tammy
The serpent is still telling the same old lie. And we are falling for it. Thanks for the reminder. God is good all the time. Even if the enemy says he is not. It comes down to who will we believe.
Hi Theresa,
You’ve distilled it down perfectly. Who will I believe? May I be like the man in scripture who said, “I believe. Help my unbelief.”
Peace and grace,
Tammy
I heard that lie so many times with my battle with Lyme Disease. God is so much bigger and better. I have been healed. It was not instant but I would not trade all the God encounters I had in the time I prayed for healing.
Hi, Jen.
What an amazing victory and testimony to HIs goodness and faithfulness! He is still in the business of healing and doing the impossible. Thank you for sharing!
Peace and grace,
Tammy
This reminds me of the story of bank tellers being trained to spot counterfeit money, not by studying counterfeits, but by examining real currency. I think this can apply to us too, when we are captivated by Him, everything else proves to be counterfeit. Let’s keep our eyes on Him.
Oh, my! What a wonderful comparison, Lisa. One could write an entire article using your wonderful analogy.
Blessings,
Tammy
Constantly renewing our minds with the Word makes us aware of the enemy’s misinformation.
Hi Suzette. You’re so right. It’s the source that provides us with a blueprint for his plans.
Blessings,
Tammy
