Sometimes the overlooked holiday, Thanksgiving provides the perfect opportunity to glorify God, edify and even witness to guests, and offer up words of gratitude and thanksgiving.
If desired, one could record a favorite prayer on paper and place it at each table setting. Guests could recite the prayer collectively or take it home following the gathering. Or, the person sharing the prayer might also read a few of the uplifting quotes and Bible verses from this post.
A Prayer of Thanks for Provision and Family at the Table
Father, today our hearts rejoice as we gather for a meal with those we love. Family and food come from your hand, and we thank you for their provision. We know that “every good and perfect gift is from above” (James 17:1) and we praise you for moments to cherish, food to eat, and family to enjoy. Thank you, Lord, for the hands of those who prepared this meal and for the blessings you richly pour into our lives. Above all, we praise you for Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen
A Prayer of Gratitude & Thanks for the Military Family
Lord, we celebrate the bounty and blessing in our lives with those around the table. We remember our loved one, _________, who is far from home and ask you to surround him/her with arms of comfort and encouragement today. Please protect him/her from harm as s/he serves courageously. We also pray for the family members joining us here. Console them with warm thoughts of their loved one and ease their loneliness, Father. Send others into their lives to minister hope and assistance. Thank you for their service and sacrifice, as well, Father. We praise your name for the sacrifice of Jesus Christ who gave His life for ours. May the name of the Messiah, our Savior, be on our lips today as we offer Thanksgiving today for your goodness to us. In the holy name of Jesus, Amen

A Thanksgiving Prayer for a Child
Dear God,
I want to thank you for family and friends,
For the pretty trees and animals
snuggled in their dens.
Thank you for loving me
Each and every day,
I know you will
care for me
when I work or play.
Amen

Lord, the struggles of life sometimes overwhelm our hearts and direct our thoughts away from you. Help us to remember that even in our times of isolation and grief, you never leave us alone. Instead, your word tells us you “will never leave nor forsake” us. (Deuteronomy 31:6) Though our circumstances are far from perfect, you are the perfect King, and we turn to you as the one who is able to” do more than we could ever ask for or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20). Jesus, we trust you and proclaim your name with hearts of gratitude, trusting in your promises. Thank you for the gifts of life, love, and liberation through the Lion of Judah. Amen

Each of the prayers is meaningful and directs our hearts to the Lord. My favorite is the first one. I love the idea of placing a prayer of thanksgiving at each place setting.
Hi Carol,
I’m so glad you enjoyed them. If I can find a few minutes, I’m hoping to create some printables to go along with each prayer.
Blessings,
Tammy
Tammy, what an excellent idea to have prayers printed out a dinner. Beautiful prayers❤
Hi Deborah,
I’m so glad you enjoyed them. Happy Thanksgiving!
Thank you for sharing these four thoughtful prayers of thanksgiving and gratitude, Tammy. IMM#29
Hi Lisa,
You’re welcome. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Blessings,
Tammy
Thank you for the cool idea! Praying for others is so important (and if you’re a parent, a life-long labor of love).
My pleasure, Anita. So true–parenting has taught me the power of prayer.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Blessings,
Tammy
Tammy, I have never thought to share Thanksgiving prayers on peoples’ place cards around the table. What a fabulous idea. And what beautiful prayers!
Hi Jeanne,
Since I’m such a sentimental person, I love little keepsakes. A printed prayer is the sort of thing I would tuck in my drawer with all of my favorite cards.
So glad you enjoyed the prayers! Praying you and yours have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Each of these prayers were beautiful, Tammy. I so appreciated the reminder to pray not only for those gathered around our table, but also for those serving in the military, those who are along and grieving, and for children.
Thank you, Joanne. A military wife for many years, I remember the difficulty of celebrating many holidays without my husband. And so many struggle during this season. I hope they find encouragement in these prayers.
Blessings to you,
Tammy
Tammy, I love these prayers! And I love the idea of prayer cards.
Thank you so much for sharing this with Sweet Tea & Friends this month sweet friend.
Thank you, Paula. And thank you for hosting the link-up! <3
What a beautiful idea to share a prayer with each guest around our tables. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving filled with rest, hope, and celebration, friend. I’m grateful that we get to do this blogging life together …
Thank you, Linda, for your kind words. I hope you and yours have a blessed Thanksgiving, too.
