“And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory.” Ephesians1:13-14
“When I grow up, I’m going to be a princess!” my miniature diva announced with certainty one morning. She was arrayed fashionably in a purple and pink tulle skirt, a sparkling plastic tiara, and tiny high heels that were missing the accent buckles. Despite her attire, Heather knew God has a plan for her life. She is royalty. Her three year old expectations remain unhampered by practical adult thought or convention. In fact, in pure child-like faith, Heather believes her dream will someday be reality.
Having recently confessed a faith in Jesus, she has been adopted by the King and ushered into a royal kingdom. Heather is His daughter and has the right to lay claim to her position of royalty—not because of who she is, but because of who her Father is. My daughter’s fanciful dream will not be fulfilled in the way she might imagine but she will experience the fulfillment of her hope in ways that only her loving Father, the King, can so lavishly offer.
In the same way, the King who has placed a dream in a little girl’s heart has also placed dreams in the hearts of His adult children. What hopes do you have that refuse to go away? Is the Sovereign God unfolding His abundant plan for you life outside of typical grown-up thought? Then, as His child, lay claim to the plan.
Thank you Lord that through salvation in Jesus my inheritance is certain.
I have been adopted as your child and can call you my Father.
